The proposed Regional Waste Site and Incinerator at Rivenhall Airfield threatens to deliver . . . .
- over 400 HGV lorries every day,
- over roads that are either unsuitable or already congested
- a total operating capacity of around 1.3 million tonnes per annum
85,000 tonnes of toxic waste generated by the plant each year
- a 35m x 7m chimney stack - visible from miles around the site
- the emission of gaseous and particulate pollution into the atmosphere, which local people, wildlife and crops will be exposed to
- the loss of woodland and habitat for a number of protected and endangered species
- and Essex County Council breaks its word about having no waste incineration sites in Essex
OUR STATEMENT OF CASE
The full Statement of Case which we have sent to the Inspectorate explains clearly and in some detail our full case. This can be downloaded in PDF format here.
TRAFFIC
Access to the site will be from the A120 using the same junction as Bradwell Quarry vehicles. At peak periods the quarry may generate 225 HGV movements per day (112 in and 112 out). The proposed Incinerator Site will generate 404 HGV movements (202 in and 202 out). The proposed HGVs will be LARGE. Here is a picture of a comparable vehicle seen in Kelvedon High Street:

We believe that 404 movements a day onto or off the A120 of HGVs similar to the above is unacceptable. The A120 is already an overcrowded road and these large vehicles will make a bad situation worse. In addition there is a risk that when the A120 seizes up these HGVs will be forced to divert through Essex villages.
THE INCINERATOR ITSELF
Incinerators have chimneys to disperse gaseous and particulate emissions. We have undertaken simulations, calculated from varous points, to show what the new facility will look like.
For instance from Woodhouse Farm (listed building):
