Our funding needs and progress to date . . . . |
The Community Group committee decided at the outset that if we are to fight the proposed incinerator we should employ the services of a barrister to advise us and represent us at the inquiry. We were delighted to be able to secure the services of John DAGG, a highly experienced Barrister from Chelmsford's Trinity Chambers. We therefore have to finance: legal expenses as well as the printing, copying and other costs involved in making posters, leaflets, banners etc. We will not know till the end of the process exactly what our costs will be but our estimate is in the region of £11,000. We believe our goal will be challenging but achievable. How can we raise this amount of money in such a short space of time? We are writing to the members of the societies involved in the group, to those who wrote to Essex Council to oppose the plans and we are also in the process of leafleting as many individual homes as we can manage in the time available. We know the overwhelming weight of local opinion is on our side and have been very encouraged by the response to our early efforts: As at 11th September we have raised or have access to over £4,000 and more cheques and cash arrive each day. The arithmetic is simple! If everyone we have written to (let alone those who receive leaflets or see posters) were to send us £10 we would more than meet our target! We will update this page as time passes so people can see how we are doing. . . . . 18th September - over £4,600. 23rd September - just short of £6,000. 30th Sept - £6,500 11th November - £8,300. We now have a shortfall of just less than £3,000 to be covered. See the Press Release under "Stop Press" for more information on the end of the Inquiry and Finances.
